Job Description
We are seeking a Certified Surgical Tech First Assistant to provide aid to the surgeon during invasive procedures. Working under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse, you will perform intraoperative technical functions such as exposure, hemostasis, and closure to help achieve a safe operation with optimal patient results. This role requires expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and equipment management to maximize patient safety.
Job Duties
Provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions.
Work under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures.
Ensure the operating room environment is safe and that equipment functions properly.
Conduct the operative procedure under conditions that maximize patient safety.
Apply expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques.
Combine knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance.
Perform all technical and physical functions and skills related to the job performance of a Surgical First Assistant and an Operating Room Surgical Technologist.
Serve as a multifaceted communicator in a variety of emotional situations.
Perform cleaning and restocking of sterile core areas and Operating Rooms.
Minimum Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent and an Associate degree in Surgical Technologist.
Certification/Training:
Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (or ability to obtain within 6 weeks of hire).
Certification in The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR certification as Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) by the National Surgical Assistant Association.
Must fulfill demonstrated First Assist competencies as defined by the Surgical Services Department within 60 days of hire (in addition to formal education).
Alternative Experience: If no formal First Assist education, previous work experience in a full-service OR with validated competencies equivalent to two (2) full years of First Assisting will be considered. Upon hire, candidate must still demonstrate First Assist competencies within 60 days of hire.
Employees hired into positions as of January 1, 2016, are required to obtain certification within six months of hire.
Other: Ability to read, write, speak, hear, and comprehend the English language.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $30.00 to $46.50/hr (based on experience).
Shift Differential: Evening and night shift differential available.
