We are seeking an experienced Data Center Technician L2 to support day-to-day operations within a fast-paced production data center environment in Reno, Nevada. This role is ideal for someone with strong hands-on experience in server hardware, networking, cabling, and operational support who thrives in highly technical environments.

The technician will be responsible for managing hardware deployments, break-fix activities, preventative maintenance, asset management, and troubleshooting across data center systems. This position works closely with infrastructure, facilities, and operations teams to ensure uptime, efficiency, and organization across the environment.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable working within a 24x7 operational setting. They should have strong communication skills, experience supporting enterprise infrastructure, and the ability to handle multiple priorities while maintaining accurate documentation and operational standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate implementation, deployment, and decommission activities within the data center.
  • Manage and resolve break-fix and maintenance tickets within SLA requirements.
  • Perform physical racking, stacking, installation, and troubleshooting of hardware equipment.
  • Support server, storage, and networking hardware deployments and upgrades.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance walkthroughs and maintain organized data center spaces.
  • Install, manage, and troubleshoot copper and fiber optic cabling infrastructure.
  • Create and maintain rack elevation diagrams and cabling documentation.
  • Provide vendor escort support for maintenance and service activities.
  • Track inventory, equipment shipments, returns, and asset allocation updates.
  • Support hardware RMA processes including replacement, packaging, and shipment coordination.
  • Monitor technical progress and maintain accurate operational documentation.
  • Participate in daily data center operations meetings and capacity planning activities.
  • Assist with DCIM updates, documentation improvements, and process development initiatives.
  • Respond to urgent support requests during high-demand operational periods.
  • Collaborate with facilities and infrastructure teams to maintain optimal operating conditions.
  • Open, track, and resolve work tickets through JIRA and related ticketing systems.
  • Support audits, operational reviews, and compliance-related activities as needed.

Required Experience/Skills

  • 4–5+ years of experience working in a data center or similar technical environment.
  • 2–3+ years of experience in a customer service-focused role.
  • Strong understanding of data center infrastructure including power, cooling, and cabling.
  • Experience with server hardware including Supermicro, Dell, and HPE systems.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts including IP routing, VLANs, Ethernet connectivity, and console access.
  • Familiarity with Arista switches and enterprise networking hardware.
  • Experience working with Linux operating systems such as Ubuntu and CentOS.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, networking, and connectivity issues efficiently.
  • Experience handling inventory management and asset tracking.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Experience using ticketing and operational platforms such as JIRA, NetBox, or ServiceNow.

  • Experience supporting 24x7 production data center environments.
  • Familiarity with Mellanox InfiniBand fabrics and networking.
  • Experience with DGX servers and DGX OS environments.
  • Experience inspecting, cleaning, and testing fiber optic cabling.
  • Exposure to XenServer virtualization platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience developing or improving operational processes and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced environments.

Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
