Apply today and join our team. The California Regional Water Quality Control Board, San Diego Region has an opening for an Environmental Scientist in the Compliance Assurance Unit. The position is located at 2375 Northside Drive, San Diego, California 92108, in the Mission Valley area near light rail stations and other public transportation.

Duties: The Environmental Scientist (ES) is responsible for collecting, compiling, reviewing, analyzing, and communicating information to make compliance determinations using scientific, technical, and adjudicated standards within the Sanitary Sewer Collection System program and across multiple surface and groundwater protection programs throughout the Regional Board’s jurisdictional area. The position requires the ability to work independently, meticulously maintain records, communicate effectively, manage multiple tasks, and become proficient in technical, writing, and presentation skills. Daily proficient use of office equipment and the Microsoft Office Suite is required. Occasional field work involving facility and natural site inspections is required.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ)

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be submitted along with the State Application and serves as documentation of candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. It should be typed, no more than two (2) pages in length, using Arial 12 pt. font , and normal margins.

The Statement of Qualifications must clearly describe how your education, training, and work experience have prepared you for the Environmental Scientist position in the Compliance and Assurance Unit.

Your response must specifically address each of the following factors:

1. Your experience applying scientific methods and principles to water-related issues.
2. Your experience developing, preparing, or critically reviewing environmental compliance reports.
3. Your experience researching prevailing industry practices or responsible party information related to water resource management.
4. Your experience conducting interviews and/or site inspections related to environmental harm.

For each factor, provide specific examples that demonstrate your relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities. Include your role, the type of work performed, and the outcome or impact of your work where possible.
