Are you ready to make a meaningful difference in the lives of mothers, babies, and families? At Legacy Community Health, we’re more than just a healthcare provider—we’re a family that believes in nurturing our team as much as we nurture the communities we serve. As a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), your passion and expertise will empower mothers during one of the most transformative times of their lives, while you grow and thrive in a supportive, mission-driven environment.

Here’s why you’ll love being part of our team:

  • Empower Mothers: Help families achieve their breastfeeding goals, providing guidance and encouragement every step of the way.
  • Collaborative Community: Work alongside a multidisciplinary team of caring healthcare professionals who value teamwork and mutual respect.
  • Mission-Driven Impact: Be part of a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving health outcomes for underserved populations.
  • Growth & Development: Take advantage of mentorship, training, and professional development opportunities to expand your skills and advance your career.
  • Work-Life Harmony: Enjoy a family-friendly culture that values your personal well-being and fulfillment.

At Legacy, you’re not just joining a workplace—you’re becoming part of a mission to improve lives through compassionate, quality healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate education, support, and counseling to breastfeeding mothers to help them initiate and sustain lactation.
  • Teach proper breastfeeding techniques and the benefits of breastfeeding over bottle feeding.
  • Demonstrate effective latching techniques and offer solutions to alleviate soreness or discomfort.
  • Support working mothers by educating them on milk supply maintenance and proper breast pump usage.
  • Guide families on safe milk storage practices to ensure convenience and safety.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and nursing staff to address patient lactation concerns and promote evidence-based practices.
  • Lead breastfeeding classes for expecting mothers, equipping them with the tools for success.
  • Evaluate infants’ oral motor mechanics and recommend appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Document patient interactions and maintain accurate records in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Provide referrals for additional support services when necessary to meet patient needs.
  • Participate in health fairs, conferences, and community outreach to promote breastfeeding education.
  • Engage in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Offer expert guidance on lactation-related resources, equipment, and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience/training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Texas licensure as a Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian is preferred.
  • Must be an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar work environment, with outpatient clinic experience being a plus.
  • Excellent teaching, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of diverse cultural, physical, emotional, and psychological responses to birthing, lactation, and parenting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is highly preferred.
