Job Description

McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics is shaping the future of patient care, disease prevention, and biomedical discovery by transforming data into innovative solutions powered by artificial intelligence, data science, and informatics. We are the only biomedical informatics program with advanced doctoral degrees in Texas and the largest and only free-standing informatics school in the nation.

This project involves the creation of trustworthy QA methods for EHRs. This includes the combination of previously developed high-precision methods (e.g., quEHRy) as well as high-performance methods based on LLMs.

The position would involve Research and develop question answering (QA) methods for electronic health record (EHR) data using large language models (LLMs).

Strongly preferred experience with developing methods based on large language models (LLMs).

  • Develop novel algorithms related to question answering for multi-modal electronic health record data
  • Draft manuscripts for journals and conferences in biomedical informatics and computer science
  • Aide in mentoring of PhD students and drafting of grant proposals

Position Summary:

A biomedical postdoc position provides an opportunity for early-career researchers to gain valuable experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field of expertise.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Plans and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and prepares publications describing results.
2. Assists in training and mentoring of lab personnel, including graduate students and other trainees.
3. Reads and evaluates literature.
4. Possess interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels.
5. Have strong written and oral communication skills.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
