ASAP Start
The Housemaster/Housemistress will lead the pastoral care and boarding provision for students in a bilingual school in Nanjing, ensuring a safe, structured and supportive residential environment.
The role focuses on students’ wellbeing, behaviour, and personal development, working closely with academic staff and boarding teams to create a strong house culture aligned with both international and Chinese educational values.
This is a residential leadership role, requiring a visible presence in the boarding house and a commitment to student life beyond the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee the day-to-day running of the boarding house, ensuring high standards of care and supervision
* Take responsibility for students’ pastoral wellbeing, behaviour, and personal development
* Act as a key point of contact for students, parents, and staff regarding boarding matters
* Lead and manage a team of boarding tutors / residential staff
* Establish and maintain a positive house culture, including routines, expectations, and community spirit
* Monitor attendance, behaviour, and welfare, intervening where necessary
* Ensure compliance with safeguarding and health & safety policies
* Coordinate evening and weekend activities and enrichment programmes
* Work closely with academic staff to support students’ academic progress and routines
* Communicate regularly with parents, including updates on student wellbeing
* Support new students with transition into boarding life particularly in a bilingual context
Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree or above
* Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTS, or equivalent) preferred
* Experience in a **boarding school environment** or strong pastoral leadership experience
* Proven ability to manage and support students in a residential setting
* Strong understanding of safeguarding and student welfare
* Experience working in an international or bilingual school environment (preferred)
* Ability to lead and manage staff effectively
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Resilient, organised, and able to handle a dynamic, 24/7 environment
* Willingness to live on-site and contribute to evening/weekend duties
