About the Role Our firm is recruiting on behalf of a large, nationally recognized organization within the retail and consumer services industry. This contract Video Editor role focuses on documentary-style storytelling that highlights real people and authentic experiences. The work is editorial in nature—not advertising—and prioritizes truth, emotion, and thoughtful pacing over high-gloss production.
Videos produced in this role will be published on corporate digital platforms and internal, team member–focused social channels. This is a part-time contract position with flexible hours based on project volume, averaging 10–30 hours per week.
Job Description The Video Editor will be responsible for shaping documentary-style footage into compelling, human-centered narratives. This role collaborates closely with creative leadership, producers, designers, and occasionally animators to deliver engaging video stories under tight deadlines.
Key responsibilities include: - Editing documentary-style footage into clear, compelling narratives
- Shaping story structure, pacing, and tone from interviews and B-roll
- Taking creative direction from an Associate Creative Director or Video Lead
- Collaborating with producers to manage timelines and project deliverables
- Working with designers to integrate titles, lower thirds, and graphic elements
- Partnering with animators on projects with motion-heavy or graphic-driven content
- Cutting, trimming, and organizing footage while maintaining authenticity and focus
- Syncing and mixing audio, including sound design to support storytelling
- Applying transitions, titles, and graphics where appropriate
- Managing multiple edits and revisions in a fast-paced production environment
Qualifications Required - Senior-level experience as a Video Editor
- Professional experience editing documentary or editorial-style content
- Strong storytelling instincts with a people-first, authentic editing approach
- Ability to shape narrative from interview-driven footage
- Proficiency in industry-standard video editing software
- Experience with motion graphics and video editing workflows
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently, manage feedback efficiently, and meet tight deadlines
- Portfolio or demo reel showcasing documentary or editorial storytelling work (interview-driven pieces strongly preferred)
Preferred - Experience with 2D animation
- Experience partnering with animators on graphic-heavy video projects
- Color correction and color grading experience (video colorist skills)
